Nursing Home Compare Information
On Nov. 12, 2002, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published extensive new data on quality of care in nursing homes. The data report 10 quality measures for every Medicare and/or Medicaid-certified facility in the United States. The goal is to provide the public with easy access to information that can help them make informed decisions about nursing homes.
This information is accessible through the Nursing Home Compare page at www.medicare.gov. It is also available by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
Note: Information in the database should be interpreted carefully and used in conjunction with other sources, as well as a visit to the nursing home. We suggest you use the Nursing Home Checklist to help evaluate the nursing homes you visit, or contact your long-term care ombudsman or State Survey Agency before making a decision. The phone number for the long-term care ombudsman or State Survey Agency in your area can be found in the Helpful Contacts (look under "Quality of Care/Complaints ") section of the www.medicare.gov website.
