EPSDT / Preventive Health Screening Profile Report

The Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) Program helps children on Medicaid from birth to 20 years of age receive all the health services they need, including screening to identify health needs. EPSDT and preventive health screening is an integral and essential part of comprehensive medical care that every child deserves.

Our Goal

To provide meaningful EPSDT / preventive health screening cost and utilization data to ConnectCare PCPs that will create an increased awareness of the need for more consistent and thorough screening.

EPSDT Profile Report

AFMC creates and disseminates the EPSDT Profile report annually to all ConnectCare PCPs with an average of 10 or more eligible enrollees during the period. The report provides the following information:

  • A letter from the AFMC corporate medical director highlighting significant issues or trends in the data
  • EPSDT / preventive health screening rates for the given caseload
  • The number of eligible recipients who were not screened during the specified time period
  • Statewide screening rates and trends
  • Basic procedure code and modifier billing information for the screens
  • A list of tools available to increase staff and patient awareness

image of EPSDT Component GridUsing the report data, AFMC tracks, visits and educates providers who are identified as having comparatively low screening rates over several quarters. The report includes an EPSDT Component Grid that depicts the components of each screen, depending on age, as prescribed by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

What physicians can do with this report:

  • Review data to determine how their patient panel compares to statewide averages for EPSDT and preventive health screening
  • Request detail reports to review specific information on each screen or to request a list of recipients who have not been screened. The PCP’s office may then want to contact these recipients to schedule subsequent screenings.
  • Request visits from the MMCS provider relations staff if there are further questions about the data in the report or ways to achieve higher rates of EPSDT / preventive health screening.
