Overview and Indicators
Overuse of antibiotics has been cited as a major cause of
increased antibiotic resistance in the United States. Combating
antibiotic resistance will require the education of health care consumers and the reinforcement of the principles of
appropriate antibiotic use to primary care providers.
The project's quality indicators are:
- Review of prescribing practices for patients
with likely viral infections
- Review of choice of antibiotics for outpatient
bacterial conditions
