Suggested Strategies for Improving
Cervical Cancer Screening Rates

Successful Strategies Key Changes for Improving Cervical Screening
Staff Education
  • Educate staff regarding your cervical cancer screening policy and recommendations through orientation, in-service meetings and/or staff newsletters.
  • Educate all staff on barriers assessment and counseling.
  • Educate all staff by inviting a cervical cancer expert to speak at a staff meeting.
Improving Office Systems
  • Take advantage of automated reminders in computer software designed specifically for medical practices and clinics. Such software can generate reports to show which patients are due for preventive services.
  • Create a clinic team to ensure a screening assessment of all women during routine office visits. With visible team members, your quality improvement interventions have greater potential for success.
  • Telephone reminders to those who miss their appointments.
