Improving Office Systems

    • Use electronic reminders or written prompts to provide anticipatory guidance.
    • Incorporate injury prevention into EPSDT visits
    • Document discussions and age appropriate educational materials given at each health maintenance visit

 

Counsel the Family and Child about Injury Prevention

 

  • ANTICIPATORY GUIDANCE TOPICS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF MEDICAL CARE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

    • Educate the child and parents/guardians about injury prevention using available resources that are developmentally appropriate, providing updates as the child grows
    • Document that age-appropriate anticipatory guidance was given utilizing anticipatory guidance checklist
    • Assess patients home environment utilizing the Home Safety Checklist
    • Provide home safety checklist  to parents/guardians for “child-proofing” or “fall-proofing”
