Data Sciences Manager Presents in REDCapCon Plenary Session
SEPT. 2024; ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Kent Thompson, manager of AFMC’s data sciences team, presented at the plenary session at this year’s REDCap annual conference. His presentation focused on AFMC’s naloxone reporting tool, which enables first responders to report naloxone administrations while collecting demographic, location, and administration data. The tool sends alerts when a certain number of administrations occur within a specific time period.
AFMC uses REDCap, an electronic data capture tool, for surveys, data collection, and reporting on several state and federal contracts. Before joining AFMC in 2015, Kent worked with REDCap at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Upon being hired at AFMC, he advocated for its adoption and worked alongside the IT department to facilitate its implementation. Since then, Kent has overseen AFMC’s utilization of REDCap for any projects, grants, or data analysis initiatives.
The annual REDCap conference, held in St. Petersburg, Florida, was a multi-day event offering educational and networking opportunities for REDCap administrators around the world. The conference is also designed for individuals to share the innovative ways they use REDCap.
Kent had several attendees approach him after the session to ask questions and engage in further conversation about AFMC’s innovative use of REDCap.
